You’re Gonna Miss It All is Pennsylvanian band, Modern
Baseball’s sophomore album. Through twelve relatively short songs, lead
vocalist, Brendan Lukens, shares his experiences with life. Lukens, being a
sophomore in college, makes it easier to relate to his life through song. Partying,
breakups, school, stressing about the past and future all play a part in Modern
Baseball’s songwriting. Lukens gives a very blunt and bare representation in
his music.
For those who did not know, Modern Baseball has a very indy,
punk feel to them. Brendan Lukens, the band’s lead vocalist, sings in nasally,
nerdy, and at times even whiny voice which surprisingly enough makes all of the
instruments come together quite nicely. No band since Weezer could pull off
such a nerdy persona and make it work.
Songs like “Charlie Black” and “Timmy Borrows” practically
walk you through a break-up. Both songs could be merged into one song, talking
about how Lukens deals with his break-up in the day versus the night. The
ending of “Charlie Black” produces some reverb fuzz which seamlessly transitions
into the next song “Timmy Borrows”. The bare boned, eerily quiet, acoustic
track creates a very depressing sound and focuses on how the night brings on different
emotion and how it is sometimes harder to cope with issues.
