My Daughters Have No Mother

Are children hindered emotionally or developmentally when raised by two same-sex parents? While reading through the article “My Daughters Have No Mother” Max Mutchnick, co-creator of the TV show Will and Grace, says that there is not anything wrong with it. Max Mutchnick has been recently been the subject to a lot of criticism after referring to his and his partner’s surrogate mother as an “oven”. Not using the term to belittle the woman that carried his little girls but just being blatant about the use of her.

While still a fairly new concept to some, the number of same-sex couples having children is growing. Whether it be a surrogate mother, going to a sperm bank, or adoption, more and more same-sex couples are taking the next step into their lives. Many people are against it but there’s no doubt it is evolving today’s world. In the media shows like Modern Family and Will and Grace exploit this fact by having same-sex couples raising children.

Even though same-sex couples with children do not fit the traditional “family mold” one might think that it doesn’t differ too much. I think that the roles of a “mother” and a “father” are still there but their just distributed differently. I do not think those roles will ever change. The child might not have an actual “mother” or “father”, but they will still have someone filling that position in their life. They will still share laughs, good experiences, bad experiences, but most importantly they will still love the same.
